Superhydrophobic Technology repels liquid off your shoes

By

Almost something straight out of the future NeverWet from Ross Nanotechnology has created what appears to be Rain-X for your sneakers. The NeverWet repels water and other based liquid by its superhydrophobic tech, if what the video shows is true you'll never have to worry about getting that buttery #02-05 suede jacked up by the weather.

This product is set to release sometime in the near future.

  • Reply to boom "What happens if you cover yourself in the hydrophobic solution, and jump in a pool? " This product creates a barrier between a surface and in the case of your question, the water. I think covering yourself with this product would turn out to be a bad idea. First since it is hydrophobic you would need something other than water to clean it off your skin and second it would probably inhibit perspiration through your skin which would be a very bad thing as your body would begin to over-heat right away left unchecked this could lead to death. You must be the person they are placing those silly warning labels on products for.

  • Reply to Cool, "can walk on water". No this would not let you walk on water. Buoyancy has nothing to do with repelling water or hydrophobia. Staying on top of the surface of a body of water requires buoyancy, which is the displacement of a volume of water where the water displaced (volume) has a weight greater than the object that is displacing it. Example: a chunk of wood might weight 2 lbs and its volume might displace 3 lbs of water this chunk of wood will then float, however a chunk of wood that displaced the same volume of water but weighed 4lbs would sink. Its all about the buoyancy or pressure exerted on the object. That said please feel free to spray this on your shoes and talk a walk on the water. Be sure to collect your Darwin award when your done.
