Thrasher: Gilbert Crockett Video - Richmond Virginia Wierdness

By

Thrasher posted a Gilbert Crockett Video some people might want to check out: Gilbert Crockett's Five Favorite Places in Richmond. For people living in Richmond Virginia who skate, bike (a word to be used loosely yet fixed...), and chill around the downtown area...for people who attend VCU and/or are connected with the Richmond scene, and believe me, it is a scene belonging to a world you quite possibly will never understand...for people who countdown with tear shedding anticipation the days until each year's Slaughterama...Gilbert Crockett's Video is literally a recap of everyday "normal" living. In any case, there is some ill skate tricks to appreciate and some laughs to be had at the absurd. Once someone has lived in downtown Richmond for a while, absurd truly needs redefining. Having been witness to both, San Francisco's nuttiness might not come close to Downtown Richmond's finest.

When Richmond Virginia's legendary skateshop Dominion Skateboards closed, Venue Skateboards stepped up as a one of a kind true skateshop to supply local Richmond skater's needs.

Writing about this made me remember that Dominion Skateboards was where I bought my first legitimate skate setup, featuring an Alien Workshop deck. I might be an alien in a foreign land currently walking the streets of Richmond Virginia since I have been a  San Francisco Bay Area cat for the last six years, but I probably cannot escape the idea that a part of my skate spirit is tied to Richmond Virginia and the Hampton Roads Area. I continually point out Richmond Virginia, because oddly enough there is a Richmond California that is ensconced in the San Francisco Bay Area, though not so safely, which in many ways applies to East Coast's Richmond as well.  That is to say, street crime and violence remain as an element the local news media  respective to both Richmonds enjoy pointing out through television, radio, print, and web. Yet, the media often by choice leaves out the nice, safe, aesthetically pleasing, and historical sections of said Richmonds. When in Richmond, watch your back but do not miss all opportunities to look straight toward the beauty in life and engage with it in any form you may encounter.
