I think It’s great that VANS honors Hosoi, It’s just that these are really weak. Kinda lazy to make this one, It’s just the first version but a other part of the sun..

If you are going to honor a great boarder as Hosoi, put some more effort in it. That’s how I see it…

as a designer, i say the new hosois do need more creativity and flare. vans loves they’re suede, but the new syndicate stuff with the real stiff, premium leather turns heads, no doubt. just like phampia said, if they’re going to honor hosoi, they should drop something hot…not just remake an older model. having actually met Christian himself at a church, and also watching him skate the bowl outside of Quiksilver’s facility in Huntington Beach, CA, i would say that he definitely deserves something like this to honor his accomplishments. honestly, the guy has been through a lot. as a sneakerhead, i want to see something with meaning behind it. i understand the japanese flag, but isn’t there so much more to japanese culture? what about pagodas or bamboo forests? koi fish and dragons are HUGE in japanese folklore. all of this should be incorporated into the design of quality sneakers. it’s a process, and i think i am of the opinion that VANS just wanted to get it on the shelves. still, after all that is said and done, i’m probably going to cop them just because i dig Christian as a human being and i dig VANS and i dig the originals that i have that have gotten dirty and worn down. no one out here wears VANS (the midwest) and it’s damn near impossible to find them. oh well. i’ve said way too much. everybody stay steady.
