Back in Virginia Beach in early 2005, the times were really good. XBOX1 consoles were fully exploitable, Episode III of the new trilogy was getting ready to hit the screen, and Mountain Dew ran a rewarding summer contest to win free XBOX 360. On April 13th that same year I launched this site.
My introduction to SB’s began working behind a skate counter. As the brand began getting accepted resale was growing more profitible. I could not help but see irony that a huge corporate giant would single-handedly have a stake in helping many of the local shops stay in business. I remember a few people who would come in and purchase whole size runs from the stores for thousands of dollars and quickly turn profit via eBay. My routine shifted from working a skate counter in the day to selling and stocking dunks at night.
In four years, I have seen great sites diminish and fade away while watching sites that hustled people with fakes become web journals. I have witnessed a brand that was once ridiculed for even thinking about getting into the skateboarding business succeed, at the same time meeting the minds behind it. Most of all, seeing the unity a simple website about a niche sneaker brand could create in the worldwide.
