FecalFace has a good interview with skateboarding artist Dennis McNett of Howling Print Studio. McNett achieved greater prominence in the world of skateboard art in the past few years, most people outside of Brooklyn didn’t become acquainted with his work until he started doing occasional board series for Anti-Hero Skateboards. Since then, he’s done a line of shoes for Vans as well.

Never being one to shy away from controversy in its clothing line – Mike Tyson t-shirt, anyone? How about JFK sitting in blissful ignorance in the Dallas motorcade? – a collaboration between Supreme and Malcolm McLaren was probably inevitable.

Arguably most famous for putting together and managing the Sex Pistols, McLaren was there at the forefront of many of the music and fashion innovations that became parts of life many of us probably couldn’t imagine being without.

Sneaker Freaker history of skate shoes

Australian sneaker site and producer of the must-have magazine of the same name, Sneaker Freaker, has uploaded a 19-page feature of the history of the skate shoe – Barefoot and Bitumen: The History of Skate Sneakers, 1960-85.

The article is based on interviews with the people who actually wore the shoes, experiencing the evolution: Aussie skater Tony Hallam, film maker Bruce Walker, legedary Z-Boy Stacey Peralta, photographer Jim Goodrich and Steve Alba. All the major bands that went on to shape the industry get a mention, with several shining references to the Nike Blazer.
